Pilsen is commemorating the 10-year anniversary since it held the title European Capital of Culture. The greatest celebrations will kick off on the second weekend of September with a three-day program on Republic Square. The concert of the band The Rackers will open Friday and Saturday evening. An energetic band from Mons, Belgium, which was Pilsen's twin city in the European Capital
of Culture project in 2015, will warm up the audience with a brisk brit-pop and rock with elements of electronic music.

 

The next part of the program will feature two world-renowned artistic companies making their debut in Pilsen. The French street theatre Picto Facto will be roaming through the city center with the performance named Lampadophores, combining glowing inflatable puppets of various shapes with a live music and singing.

 

The celebrations will culminate with a breathtaking performance Muaré Experience in the shadows of the cathedral. The Spanish acrobatic group Voalá Station with acrobats hanging above the audience will present an impressive acrobatic and musical comedy show whose part will be a full rock concert by the band Duchamp Pilot.

 

The Sunday program will be led by the J. K. Tyl Theatre. It will join the celebrations of the anniversary of the European Capital of Culture with a spectacular program that brings together all of its artistics ensembles. You can expect a captivating mix of opera arias, a selection from the most successful musicals, winsome ballet scenes, and drama that speaks the language of melodrama. Not only emotions and energy will take the stage, but above all enthusiasm for the creation – from experienced soloists to young talents. A special guest participating in the program will be TUTOcirk. The DJKT Live program will showcase the theatre as a living and dynamic organism that breathes for its city. 

 

A completely unique experience wil be the integration of both opera and musical orchestras that will perform live from the theatre. Their sound and image will be transmitted in the real time via video to Republic Square which will create a remarkable technological connection between performing arts and space. This innovative approach will offer an extraordinary experience that goes beyond the borders of traditional theatre format.
