CELEBRATIONS OF THE 730TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDATION OF THE CITY

PLZEŇ 2025 – OPEN UP!

Pilsen opens the celebrations of the ten-year annivesary of the title European Capital of Culture 2015 with the event Pilsen 2025 – Open UP!. On Republic Square, it will commemorate the 730th anniversary of the foundation of the city. The highlight of the programme will be a spectacular multimedia show “Journey in Galaxy through Pilsen“. Its main characters will be two giant light puppets DUNDU – the father Vektor, speaking with the voice of the actor Martin Stránský, and his daughter Mia. These two creatures from the distant future will comment on the last few centuries of the history of the city with their dialogues accompanied by video mapping by the Pilsen studio Metanoia Creatives projected on the Saint Bartholomew‘s Cathedral. One of the chaptures of the video mapping will be created by connecting short videos, photographs and pictures made by Pilseners themselves within the “PEOPLE OF PILSEN“ public appeal. The performance will be completed by the projection called Pilsner Pictures which will introduce animated history of the city from the Hussites to the liberation by the US army to the titles of local sportsmen. At the end, the several-meter-tall puppets will go out into the audience who will be able to take a closer look and take pictures.
 

The evening is divided into three identical blocks in the times of:

6:30–7:30 PM
8:00–9:00 PM
9:30–10:30 PM
 

On Republic Square, there will be a gastro zone with refreshments for visitors.

The event requires traffic measures. Republic Square will be completely closed to car and bus transport from 5:00 to 12:00 PM, the tram transit will also be limited. For up-to-date information, we recommend following the websites www.plzen2025.eu and PMDP.
 

VIP platform
A raised platform near the "Chrtice" fountain will be prepared for special guests and journalists at the following times:
18:40 - guests of the city of Pilsen
20:00 and 21:40 - guests of DEPO2015
Due to limited capacity, entry is only possible after confirming an individual invitation.

The platform is equipped with an access ramp and will also serve for immobile people.
